Tigers Grind Out Win Over Patriots

The Ansonia Tigers were able to grind out a win over the Tri-Village Patriots to end their season with a 6-4 record. They utilized a full house backfield and mainly ran between the tackles. An effective style of football for a cold November night. They hung onto the ball in the 1st half like a pitbull hangs onto a ham bone. Tri-Village could barely pry the ball away. Ansonia did most of their scoring in the 1st half and then turned the ball game over to their defense which held Tri-Village to a single score in the 2nd half as the Tigers would finish their season with a win, 31-8.

Upset - Patriots 50 - Arcanum 34

Tri-Village (4-4) broke open a close game in the 2nd half and upset league leading Arcanum (7-1). Most of the night Arcanum was without the services of their feature running back, Corey Ross. So the game boiled down to a contest between two young quarterbacks – freshman Bryce Schondelmyer of Arcanum and sophomore Lane Sarver of Tri-Village. At halftime Arcanum had a slim lead – 21 to 20, but Tri-Village outgunned them in the 2nd half and put up 30 points for a 50-34 upset victory.

Patriot Stats: Sarver 17/24 passed for 250 yards, 3 tds, 1 int; Josh Scantland 6 catches for 182 yds, 2 tds; Devin Swick 9 catches for 60 yds, 1td. Dylan Finkbine 12 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery; Cody Eyer 6 tackles, 1 interception return for TD.
