Indians Scalp Hounds

The Carlisle Indians defeated the Dixie Greyhounds.  The Hounds moved the ball against the Indians, but had problems scoring in the loss. In the first half they probably won the time of possession and moved the ball well in between the 20's.  But when they got close to a score they either coughed the ball up or their drive stalled with the goal line in sight. The team turned over the ball 3 times in Carlisle territory. Defensively, they gave up big plays.

Their first drive and their last drive summed up their night.  The opening drive of the ball game, Dixie drove down to the Indian 9 yard line where the quarterback fumbled a muffed snap and Carlisle recovered.  A few plays later Carlisle scored on a 78 yard run. Then in the last quarter with a little over 2 minutes left and the score 22-7 in favor of Carlisle, Dixie recovered a fumble deep in Carlisle territory. It was the last chance for the team. But the opportunity was squandered, another turnover gave Carlisle back the ball and they scored in the final seconds of the game to make it a 28-7 victory.

Dixie's lone score came in the second quarter from a drive that started on their own 38 yard line. Jordan Butt caught a pass from Jimmy Myers and the 28 yard completion found pay dirt. Dixie mainly used the spread offense and short passes for their offense.  They ran sparingly, but did use a jumbo package where lineman Bill Wombold was used in the backfield. This was good for a few first downs.  Carlisle used a double wing offense and mainly ran.  They did mix in the pass.

Next week Carlisle hosts Brookville while Dixie hosts Northridge.
