Dayton Area Sports - Week Ending Sep. 30

South Over Dixie

Twin Valley South beat Dixie 2-1 Saturday morning.  Brayden Marker scored off a header from a throw in early in the second half assisted by Travis Lovely.  Dixie tied the game off a throw in.  Jacob Wells then hit a rocket upper 90 to put the Panthers ahead and become South's all time leading scorer passing Jacob Cottongim. His goal was assisted by Brayden Marker.

Coach Young:
"It was a good win today.  It was really hot and it's always a tough game against Dixie.  Their coach has them playing really good futbol right now.  I thought we knocked the ball around well today and controlled possession very well today.  We slightly altered our formation at half time to put a little more pressure on their defense and it ended up paying off. "

The Defense:
"Our defense played really well today.  Jacob Denlinger came up with a couple key saves.  Ian Kurtz played a great game at sweeper and made a huge hustle play late to preserve the lead.  Chris Kenner, Jimmy Mullins, and Logan Cook keep making it tough on Dixie to get any solid attacks."

Looking Forward:
"We felt this was a must win game today.  Our goal coming into the season was to be at least a 10 win team.  Our last four games are against opponents who all rank in the top ten in the Miami Valley so it's not going to be easy.  Our boys have started to possess the ball a lot better though.  I think we have started to become more physical.  I've seen a lot of positives coming out of our last two matches."

BlackHawks Downed by Panthers

The BlackHawks actually had a halftime lead and seemed to have the upper hand although with a score more befitting a baseball game, 6-2.  The defenses of both teams kept a lid on scoring with just one touchdown allowed in the 1st half.  South has twice scored more than 40 points this season, so throttling their offense was no trivial feat.  But in the 2nd half the defense bent and finally broke – allowing South to score. And the offense kept tripping up at the wrong times – penalties and missed opportunities stopped several drives.  South was able to find the endzone finally in the second half and would score 2 TD’s plus another safety to win 18-6.

Tri-Village Mistakes Costly in 5 Set Loss

The Tri-Village team has 3 games in 4 days this week.  The first game was away at SWBL foe Preble Shawnee where mistakes would prove costly on the night.  You need to attack and not let the other team get the upper hand ,as it is hard to play from behind on the road.  They managed to win their 1st set and seemed to have the upper hand.  But they squandered that momentum and lost the next two sets.  The Patriots fought hard to win the 4th set and force a 5th set.  But they self destructed and lost the deciding set.  The scoring was 25-18, 17-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-6.
