South Defeats Dixe
South made some big plays when it counted - converting 2 big 4th and long plays in the red zone that would end up as touchdowns and also showed the ability to grind out yardage in their win over Dixie. Dixie had a problem with turnovers, and the South defense also made some good stands and forced Dixie to turnover the ball on downs several times. Dixie special teams helped their cause with a fake punt for a 1st down and a squib kick that was recovered. But at nights end it was South who were winners 35-14.
After stopping Dixies opening drive South drove down the field and appeared to be stalled in the red zone. But on 4th and about 21, Chandler Napier hauled in a Wade Cottingim pass for the 1st score of the night. Dixie managed an answer on their next drive - mainly pounding the ball in between the tackles. Logan Grubb scored on a 4 yard run.
Dixie special teams had a breakdown on the ensuing kickoff. Cade Cottingim ran about 75 yards and scored to re-extend South's lead. Then on the ensuing kickoff Dixie fumbled at midfield. Dixie was able to force South to turn the ball over on downs so no further damage was done. So the special teams made some big plays that helped, but also had some break downs that were costly - the net effect being a wash.
Michael Crews had the last score of the half on an 8 yard carry with 2:46 left in the half. On their possession Dixies drive stalled and they lined up to punt. But their punter did a fake and instead ran for a 1st down in South territory. With the clock winding down Dixie rolled the dice and tried to toss the ball into the endzone. But Titus Woodgeard swooped in for the interception. So at halftime it was 21-6 in favor of South.
Both teams mixed the run and pass in the 1st half. But in the 2nd half both teams relied mainly on the run. South drove well with their 1st possession of the half. But once again in the redzone the drive stalled. After a holding call, Billy Womble next sacked the quarterback and South was facing a 4th and forever. But Jaden Bassler caught a pass to plant the ball on the 4 yard line and give South a fresh set of downs. Issac Clark scored from there.
Dixie scored again when Keith Thomas capped off a drive with a 4yard run. They then did a pooch kick which was recovered. But the South defense held firm and Dixie could not capitalize. In the 4th quarter South was pounding the ball with running back Issac Clark in between the tackles. He was getting 3,4 yards a crack and was grinding out yardage. Suddenly he broke a tackle or two and found some green space - he then ran for 51 yards and the final score of the night.
Next week South travels to Preble Shawnee and Dixie will host Tri-Village.

Tri-Village Downs Dixie
A win is a win. When
you have a young team that is playing their 1st volleyball game of
the season – with 4 of your players on the roster for the first team, then yes,
things are going to be dicey at times. The Patriots struggled at times but
throughout the match they managed to make points when they had to and won in
straight sets over the SWBL’s Dixie Greyhounds 25-20 25-19 25-21.
It seemed like the Patriots 1st set was
actually their best set as far as team errors and overall game play. When the team did their dig – set – spike, they really seemed to shine and after breaking
a tie at 11 all, they had good front line play to get a lead and hang onto it. Sophomore
Kelsie Wehr was a...Complete story at: Daily Advocate

Young Dixie Team Scrimmages Mississinawa Valley
Dixie will be returning their head coach, Dave Worley but the football team will have a lot of new faces on the roster. The team will be starting several freshmen including quarterback Jimmy Meyer. The Greyhounds do return experience on the offensive line. This was their last tune up of the preseason where they went against the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks. The scrimmage ended with both teams scoring twice when it was varsity on varsity.
Dixie's first score was during their 1st possession when then connected on a 66 yard catch and run for a TD. The 2nd score was their opening drive of the 2nd half. They ground out a clock eating drive that ended with a 2 yard plunge across the goal line. The Dixie defense did get 2 interceptions. On offense Dixie ran 2 different sets - a single wing offense and the spread. They were effective with both looks. The Greyhounds start the regular season at home against Twin Valley South next Friday night.

Mississinawa Valley Ready for Season
The Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks capped off their
preseason with a scrimmage against the SWBL’s Dixie Greyhounds. Both teams scored twice when it was varsity
on varsity. The Blackhawks almost had a
3rd score, but a Greyhound interception at the 4 yard line ended
that threat. The Blackhawks managed to tack on another score when JV’s took the
field. Both teams showed the ability to pass and run. All in all it was a positive scrimmage for the
Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks utilized a spread offensive. The team moved the ball the best when it
mixed the run and pass. After allowing
Dixie to score on their first drive with a 66 yard catch and run, the
