    Versailles Advances Over Arcanum

Versailles climbed another rung on the state tournament ladder with a win over Arcanum.   Versailles looked unbeatable in the early going as they methodically chugged through the first 3 innings to get a 3-0 lead.  But Arcanum was able to make a charge midway through the game and tie.  However, the Tigers chewed through 3 Trojan pitchers as their offense made the difference as they pulled ahead for a 10-4 victory.

    Mistakes Costly To Arcanum

After winning their 1st two tournament games, the Trojans faltered against the Indian Lake Lakers.  The team played even with them for 4 innings.  But some costly errors by the young team put runners in scoring position and allowed the Lakers to get some unearned runs.  The pressure of the playoffs seemed to have gotten them rattled and although they attempted a comeback, they fell short 7-3.

    Patriots Muzzle Bulldogs

The Patriots played like a team on a mission in the opening round of the state tournament against Yellow Springs.  The host team built an early lead and kept the pressure on throughout the game as they run ruled the Bulldogs 14-2 in 5 innings.  Offensively, they scored in every inning and Derek Eyer hit his 2nd home run of the year, this time on his home turf.  Defensively they took care of the ball and maybe had one error.

Patriots Thwart Panther Comeback, Win in 9 Innings

The young Tri-Village Patriots fast pitch team has had to work for every win this season.  Their last regular season game was a win – but it took 9 innings.  The young team could not put the Twin Valley South Panthers away.  They allowed the home team 8 runs in the 7th inning and the game went to extra innings with the teams knotted at 12 runs apiece.  The Patriots were able to break the tie and win 14-13 even though the Panthers almost made a 2nd comeback in the bottom of the 9th.

    Jets Finish Week Strong

After losing a game that was winnable against South, a resilient Franklin Monroe fastpitch team bounced back in a big way. They finished out this week run ruling the next two teams they faced.  League rival Covington was the first victim (12 to 2) and then they travelled down to Dixie where they beat the Hounds (13 to 2) in 5 innings. So they really turned their week around and more importantly generated some momentum going into next week when the state tournament will begin.

    Tri-Village KO's Twin Valley South

The Tri-Village Patriots baseball team has been able to string together 4 wins.  Their last win was an impressive one against the Twin Valley South Panthers.  The team was aggressive on the base paths and got a boatload of stolen bases.  Defensively, they bent several times and allowed runners on base.  But they only allowed a solitary run to be scored against them in an impressive 13-1 win. Christian Ricker pitched the entire game.

    Wave Defense Dazzles

In a closely contested game between Greenville and Northmont, it was the Greenville defense that shined the brightest at the Reds/Skyline Showcase game.   Whether it was the outfield or the infield, the team made outstanding plays through the course of the game. As good teams tend to do, Greenville was able to capitalize on a Thunderbolt mistake to gain their margin of victory.  And pitcher Caitlin Christman held a strong Northmont team to a single run in the 2-1 win.

South Winners at Fred Durkle Invitational

For the 4th year in row South boys and girls teams win their invitational track meet.

It was Friday the 13th on the calendar, but after a rough spring – this Friday instead brought good luck for the athletes, with temps well into the 70’s and bright sunshine.  A welcome change from the rain and snow that has plagued the area. There was a stiff breeze which gave the pole vaulters some grief, but overall it was a welcome day after the horrendous weather that teams have had to deal with this season.  The good weather brought out the fans as well, the bleachers were well filled and folks lined up along the fences for the meet.
The athletes responded to this change and there were some good performances.

    Panthers Bow out of Tournament

North got an early lead thanks to Preston Jackson who scored 10 of his 23 points in the 1st quarter. But Miami Valley caught up and now North had to play catch up for the next 3 quarters.  North made a valiant run late in the 4th quarter - closing to within 3 points with about a minute left.  Dillon McCollough, who had only scored 7 points coming into the last quarter, sparked the rally. But with the Panthers pressing hard on defense, Miami Valley was able to get some easy baskets at the other end of the court and pull away for a 69 - 63 win.  Although they bowed out early, the Panthers can look back with pride on their 1st winning regular season record in many years.

Scoring: Dillon McCollough 16, Brian Stinson 8, Preston Jackson 23, Preston Lairson 4, Dylan Stinson 12.

    Lunch Pail Win For Jets

After watching 4th seed Tri-County North get upset in the in the game before theirs, the Jets seemed even more resolved to take care of business in their 1st round game in the state tournament.  And they did take care of business in blue collar fashion – going to work with a gritty defense and a patient offense that gradually dismantled the SouthEastern Trojans 68-35

    Scoring: Ressler 4, Filbrun 6, Cable 14, McGlinch 3, Hesler 10, Conley 21
