Trail - TVS First Round Winners

Both Twin Valley South and National Trail were winners on opening night of the boys basketball season and also the first round of the TVS Tip Off Tournament.  National Trail used a high octane offense and stingy defense to overwhelm the Dixie Greyhounds 77-53.  South had to work hard to fend off a scrappy Eaton team, but held them off in the last quarter for 55-42 victory to make it an all CCC night.

Trail Freshman Cameron Harrison made his first varsity game a memorable one, scoring 21 points despite Dixie putting Devin Worley on him full time in the 2nd half.  When he couldn't score, he got assists - so one way or another he found a way to help the team.

Dixie was cold in the 1st half, they had a tough time finding the basket.  Trail acted like it was their home gym, chipping in shots at a fast pace.  At halftime it was a lopsided 39-16 lead.  Dixie did not help their cause by gifting Trail with 8 turnovers in the 2nd quarter and 7 in the 3rd quarter. Trail was playing good defense, but Dixie made it easy for them.

Dixie did try to press in the 2nd half in a bid to make up ground. They scored fairly evenly with Trail in the 2nd half, but couldn't make up any ground. They had spotted Trail too large a lead in the 1st half.

In the past Eaton - a larger school, usually has taken the court with one of the taller teams. But this years Eagles are a smaller, quicker bunch.  South garnered the early lead, but Eaton stubbornly stayed on their heels the entire way.  Travis Lovely had a good game for the Panthers with some good moves to the basket. He would lead the Panthers with 23 points.

Eaton played mainly man to man in the half court and used a 2-2-1 press against the Panthers. South played man to man the entire game.

At halftime it was 24-15. Eaton did have a nice run to begin the 3rd quarter closing the gap to 3 28-25.  Coach Augspurger took a time out to get his players settled down and South went back to work and re-extended their lead. In the last quarter, Eaton tried to close the gap with vigorous defense, but were unable to make any headway.

Saturday Eaton and Dixie will play at South at 4pm in the consolation game.  South and Trail will play at 5:30 in the Championship game.

Wave Surge Falls Short

As the teams took the court, you could see that Greenville had a tall mountain to climb.  Northmonts starters were about a head taller than Greenville.  And not only did they have a height advantage, but they could run the court and shoot well.  It was an ugly first half.  But Greenville collected themselves in the locker room and put together a nice rally in the 3rd quarter.  Northmont regrouped at the break between quarters and came out with a vengeance in the last quarter, outplaying the Wave for a 46-31 win.

Youth Prevails at Arcanum Tip off

Both Arcanum and Franklin Monroe have only a single senior on their rosters, but both teams were winners on opening night of the high school basketball season.  The Jets had an easy time of it, rocketing off to an early 17-2 lead en route to a 59-20 victory.  Corina Conley and Belle Cable were high scorers for the Jets. Arcanum faced off against a stubborn Brookville team.  They were able to eventually garner the win, but had to work hard to earn it 49-33.  Kayla O'Daniel and Gracie Garno were top scorers for the Trojans. Both teams featured stubborn defenses that generated points in transition.  Arcanum and Franklin Monroe will play for the championship tonight.
