North Overpowers South
There is an adage that you generally go with the team with bigger line when you have a wet field. North had the bigger line last Friday and they made their presence felt both on offense and defense. North quarterback Brian Stinson also had a great night - he accounted for 3 rushing scores and also kept the South defense off balance with his passing.
South had problems mounting a consistent passing game and they found the yardage hard to gain on the slick field. They were scoreless at the half, but Cade Cottingim found an open Titus Woodgeard who made it to the endzone untouched for a 57 yard TD catch on South's 1st possession of the 3rd quarter. On North's possession, they threw a backwards pass that was covered by South. North has had a history this early season with 2nd half let downs and South was feeling momentum building. At this point it was 20-7. So the North faithful had to be feeling a little nervous.
But Casey Whipp snagged a South pass and halted this drive at the North 30. That was about as close as South would get to scoring again for the night. North recaptured their momentum on this next possesion and were able to score and re-extend their lead. The last score of the game for North was Braden Gray. He was able to pick off a South pass and run it 22 yards to the house to end scoring for the night. It was 36-7 at the final gun. North did not have a 4th quarter let down on this night.
Wyatt Hutchins had a good night on the defensive side of the ball for North with a sack, several tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery
Next week South travels to Trail and North travels to Miami county and faces Covington. Both games should be close contests.
