South Stopped by Dayton Christian

The Dayton Christian Warriors spoiled senior night for Twin Valley South in their last game of the season.  South had a tough time dealing with their full court press.  And when they got into the half court, they had problems scoring against an active Warrior zone defense. South would not get their first basket until midway through the 1st quarter when Travis Lovely scored in the paint. South was hunting for points and they found some points on their bench.  Jayden Bassler who normally plays sparingly ended being high scorer for South with 15 points on the night. But it was not enough as Dayton Christian took control of the game from the beginning buzzer and won 78-52.

Scoring: Ryan Bassler 3, Jayden Bassler 15, Nathan Osborn 7, Jacob Wells 4, Willie Bowman 9, Cole Peterson 2, Travis Lovely 10.  Dayton Christian: JT Thornhill 10, Anton Webb 14, Shawn Vangy 6, Ryan Fair 2, Matt Welken 40, Seth Griswold 3, Lane Swana 3.

Blackhawks End Regular Season With Loss to Panthers

Before the game Twin Valley South honored their 3 seniors before the game began.  Oftentimes teams will also honor the visiting teams seniors as well – but Mississinawa Valley has no seniors on their squad.  And that was a big part of the difference in the game as a more experienced Twin Valley South team held off an early charge by the Blackhawks and made a charge of their own in the 2nd half for a 58-39 win.

TV South Scoring: Kelsie Shafer 19, Mylan Crews 17, Taylor Bowers 8, Madison Johnson 5, Abby Bingham 4, Alexis Bennett 3, McKenzie Neal 2.

Jets Fall to Panthers in Overtime

The 2nd place Franklin Monroe Jets had to begin their weekend with an away game at Twin Valley South – a team that always dangerous under the coaching of Tony Augspurger.  The JV game was presage of what was to come in the varsity game, a close contest with many lead changes and the outcome decided in overtime by a narrow margin.  Fans definitely got their moneys worth in this closely fought CCC contest. The teams would tie at 51 in regulation and in overtime Ryan Bassler gave the Panthers the lead with a trey at the 6 second mark.  The Jets got the ball into the hands of Bryce Filbrun in the last seconds, but Willie Bowman, who was also scored a game high 30 points, swatted the shot away to preserve the 61-60 victory.

Bradford Mistakes Costly Against Brookville

It was senior night at Brookville High School, so a robust hometown crowd was on hand.  Maybe it was the noise level or maybe it was the 1st game of the week on the road, but Bradford was consistently cold shooting from the floor.  And offensively they also had problems holding onto the ball – allowing 25 turnovers on the night.  Despite all this they kept pace with Brookville until the last quarter when Bradford allowed the Blue Devils to go on an 8-1 run to break the game open for a 33-21 win.

Scoring: Skip Miller 16, Hannah Fout 3, Emma Canan 2.
Leading rebounders: Skip Miller 12,  Bianca Keener 9.  Assists: Skip Miller 2

Tigers Frozen Out Against Panthers

The pregame featured an award ceremony for North's Audrey Stupp.  She recently set a single game record for North - scoring 43 points. This eclipsed Rachael Heindl's single game record of 40 points. Current TCN  Coach O'Dell held the record previous to this with 29 points.  Pictured above is a 'Triple Threat' of top scorers.

Ansonia was cold shooting from the field against Tri-County North.  They ran with the Panthers in the 1st quarter when the play was focused on transition. They were only behind by 5 – 19 to 14. It began at a fast pace with both teams running the court.  But when the game settled down into a half court pace, that change favored North.  They scored both inside and outside.  Meanwhile Ansonia was cold in their half court sets.  A 10 point half time deficit grew and by games end it was 65-44 in favor of North....

Battered Blackhawks Begin Tough Week

Mississinawa Valley is in the middle of a rough stretch.  Two of their varsity players were recently injured in a car crash and are undergoing a concussion protocol.  So 2 down is tough enough for any team.  Then the Blackhawks lost their league leading rebounder Sidnie Hunt to an accident at a skating rink over the weekend.  Hunt had dislocated a finger and was also not available for the game.   So when it rains – it pours for the Blackhawks.  Three players down, the Blackhawks limped into Tuesdays game against the Panthers.  Their youth and inexperience showed as North had their way in a 55-18 victory.

Patriots Fade in Fourth

The Tri Village Patriots are deep into league play in mid January.  The games get critical as they count to the league standings and also the state tournament is on the horizon. Teams are jockeying for a good seed in the tournament.  So every game matters all the more as teams across Ohio work on the 2nd half of their season. So with this situation the Patriots had to face a resurgent Tri-County North team that has caught a wave this winter.  After floundering for many years at the bottom of the league, North has been playing better ball as of late.  The Patriots played with North for most of the game, but they were outpaced down the stretch and dropped a game on the road  62-50....

Ansonia Gets Hot Hand in 2nd Half

It is tough to get a win on the road in the CCC and particularly hard to win at Twin Valley South. Ansonia has been frustrated many times in West Alexandria over the years.  But the Tigers came out of the locker room on a mission and with quiet determination they expanded their 1 point halftime lead. And even after clearing their bench in the last minutes of the 4th quarter they were able to drive away with a decisive win on the road over South 60-46.

Bradford Overcomes First Half Funk to Edge South For Win

To say both teams were slow to start in the first half was an understatement.  Both teams had to shake off the Christmas break doldrums.  It wasn’t until after halftime that the two teams seemed to wake up and begin to play real basketball.  And what a second half it was, with several lead changes and the game finally came down to the last minute where Bradford was able to edge out South to notch a league win 43-39.
