We Didn't Quit
“We didn’t quit.” This was new Bradford head coach John
Cruse’s first comment about the Bradford scrimmage against Trail. But this
phrase applies to the football program as a whole when it came close to being brought
to halt almost 24 hours before.
Bradford’s football program had gotten off to about as bad a
start as a team could in the preseason. After starting with 22 kids at the beginning
of 2-a-days, the team melted away to just 13 players who refused to quit. Then the
day before their 2nd scrimmage and just a couple of weeks away from
the start of the regular season their head coach resigned....
In an abbreviated scrimmage, Trail outscored Bradford 1 TD - 0. Bradford had several good redzone stands that kept Trail out of the endzone most of the evening.

Versailles Advances Over Arcanum
Versailles climbed another rung on the state tournament
ladder with a win over Arcanum.
Versailles looked unbeatable in the early going as they methodically
chugged through the first 3 innings to get a 3-0 lead. But Arcanum was able to make a charge midway
through the game and tie. However, the
Tigers chewed through 3 Trojan pitchers as their offense made the difference as
they pulled ahead for a 10-4 victory.

Mistakes Costly To Arcanum
After winning their 1st two tournament games, the
Trojans faltered against the Indian Lake Lakers. The team played even with them for 4
innings. But some costly errors by the
young team put runners in scoring position and allowed the Lakers to get some
unearned runs. The pressure of the
playoffs seemed to have gotten them rattled and although they attempted a
comeback, they fell short 7-3.

Patriots Muzzle Bulldogs
The Patriots played like a team on a mission in the opening
round of the state tournament against Yellow Springs. The host team built an early lead and kept
the pressure on throughout the game as they run ruled the Bulldogs 14-2 in 5
innings. Offensively, they scored in
every inning and Derek Eyer hit his 2nd home run of the year, this
time on his home turf. Defensively they
took care of the ball and maybe had one error.

Patriots Thwart Panther Comeback, Win in 9 Innings
The young Tri-Village Patriots fast pitch team has had to
work for every win this season. Their
last regular season game was a win – but it took 9 innings. The young team could not put the Twin Valley
South Panthers away. They allowed the
home team 8 runs in the 7th inning and the game went to extra
innings with the teams knotted at 12 runs apiece. The Patriots were able to break the tie and
win 14-13 even though the Panthers almost made a 2nd comeback in the
bottom of the 9th.
